POP premieres with two UST-centered TV shows

Prime One Productions, stylized as POP, is a student-run production house popping with creativity and energy. Founded and composed of passionate junior Thomasian Communication students, POP prides itself on being in the lead for producing high-quality content that entertains Thomasians while navigating the ever-growing media landscape.

This year, the Communication and Media Department of the University of Santo Tomas will stage CommTV, a third-year interclass competition, as part of their TV Production course. This will serve as a platform for catering to students’ passions and highlighting their creative minds in Broadcast Media. In line with this, POP will produce two shows—Tiger Decodes and Tiger Idol.

Tiger Decodes is an escape room game show that challenges Thomasians’ knowledge about the rich history and culture of UST. Five players locked inside a den will be hunting for clues and solving puzzles with the goal to escape and win the prize.

Thomasian experts and professionals will also be invited to explain the relevant information pertaining to the university found in the said puzzles. The show aims to educate people about UST’s rich history, foster its heritage, and show how it has become vital in shaping the identity of Filipinos in a fun and unique way.

On the other hand, Tiger Idol is a reality television singing competition program within the university that searches for the rightful singer to be crowned as the first ever Tiger Idol. Undergoing various musical showdowns and challenges, aspiring Thomasian singers from the four corners of UST will use their golden voices to prove that one of them has whatever it takes to get the prestigious title. Tiger Idol shall give a snapshot of how rich the university is in musicality and performance, cultivating greater appreciation and support for UST’s local talents.

Both of the shows cast Thomasian talents, engaging with Thomasians both online and on-ground. The first show, Tiger Decodes is set to air this coming April 15 while Tiger Idol will air on May 6 only at UST Tiger TV’s Facebook Page and across the TV sets around the university campus.
